REP Fitness AB-5200 Weight Bench

Back Pad - Wobble Fix

5/1/2021

The Incorrect Bolt Suggested by some Online DIYers is:

M12-1.75 x 150 Hex Cap Bolt Class 8.8 Zinc

The new metric Bolt diameter is correct for the metric Bushings inside the weight bench - BUT, the Bolt suggested is TOO SHORT and so therefore the threads on the Bolt barely thread onto the lock-nut and doesn't even come into contact with the blue plastic inside the lock-nut.

It's a great "attempt" to tell everyone that owns a REP Fitness AB-5200 weight bench on how to fix the back pad wobble, but in a week the nut is just going to fall off.

>> ANSWER: Just get the next available longer size bolt:

M12-1.75 x 160 Hex Cap Bolt Class 8.8 Zinc Coarse Partial Threads ZINC CLEAR Item # 137037

The only place I could find it is here: Bolts and Nuts.com

$4.38 + ($7.00 shipping) = $11.38

Important Note: You can use the original lock-nut, you don't have to buy another one. This is quite strange because the New Bolt is Larger in diameter, than the original.

Question: What is REP Fitness is doing WRONG (with this Adjustable Weight Bench) ?

Answer: They are MIXING Metric Bushing hardware sizes with an American Measurement system Bolt size!

I got my AB-5200 for the price of a AB-4100, all because of this very well built wobbly paper weight, is what I kept calling it to the REP "customer service" person attempting to resolve this wobble problem - but really they had NO IDEA WHAT THEY WERE DOING.

I spent 3 months telling them how to fix their own weight bench. I told them that they either had to change the bushings to match the bolt, or visa versa - match the bolt to the bushings.

They are Using/Mixing metric bushing sizes with an American measurement system bolt size.

Crazy as it sounds, it seemed like they didn't even believe me, that I had a Wobble in the first place. Even though there are videos on YouTube talking about this wobble problem.

I told them that I require a 25% refund and so they wanted me to make a video of the wobble while the back pad was flat, (inclined it seemed ok) and so I sent them the video and they did in fact give me my requested refund of 25% so I paid $400.90 of what I paid originally $534.53 with shipping.

Back in 1/23/2021 REP Fitness didn't have Free Shipping, so the pricing structure back then was: $469 + $65.53 Shipping = $534.53

View the below Video I sent them, of this very well built wobbly paper weight "weight bench".
